My curiosity forced me to read the book, and
the miracle has taken place! I DO NOT SMOKE
ANYMORE!!! I bought some copies for my
friends. They, too, do not smoke now!

However, before we do so, we need to dispel one more myth about casual smokers. Letâs now consider the type of casual smoker that other smokers probably envy most of all: the âI donât find âgiving upâ a problem, I can do it whenever I want toâ type.
Of course we envy such smokers. But if I tried to sell you Aladdinâs lamp, would you just take my word that it indeed had âmagicalâ properties? It doesnât take Sherlock Holmes to deduce that smokers who can âgive upâ whenever they want to just donât exist. To start with, itâs a contradiction in terms; if they have truly âgiven up,â they wouldnât have started again once let alone several times. And why would they want to âgive upâ? After all, no one forces us to âgive upâ any more than they can force us to smoke in the first place. So, isnât it obvious? No smoker would âgive upâ unless they didnât enjoy being a smoker. And when smokers do âgive up,â why on earth do they start again? The answer is equally obvious: they donât enjoy being non-smokers either.
We believe such smokers get the best of both worlds. Please donât envy them. Like every other smokerâheavy, casual, or otherwiseâthey actually get the worst of all worlds: during the periods they are smokers, they wish they were non-smokers. Why else would they âgive upâ? And during their non-smoking phases they feel deprived and miserable. Why else would they start again?
Never forget that although all smokers are different, they are all hooked on the same drug. Itâs not a case of one manâs food is another manâs poison. This particular drug is poisonous to all living creatures. To each and every one of them it is undiluted:
